Jacob Benjamin "Jake" Gyllenhaal (pron.: jil-?n-hawl, born December 19, 1980) is an American actor. The son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, Gyllenhaal began acting at the age of ten. Following his first lead role in 1999's October Sky, he starred in the indie cult hit Donnie Darko (2001), in which he played a psychologically troubled teenager alongside his older sister, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. In 2002, he starred in another indie film, The Good Girl, alongside actress Jennifer Aniston. In 2004, he appeared in the science-fiction film The Day After Tomorrow, portraying a student caught in a cataclysmic global cooling event.

Gyllenhaal then played against type as a frustrated Marine in Jarhead (2005). The same year, his role as Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain earned him critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He has since played the lead roles in many notable films, including Zodiac (2007), Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010), Love and Other Drugs (2010), Source Code (2011), and End of Watch (2012).

Jacob Kogan (born May 28, 1995) is an American actor. He is best known for playing the title role in the 2007 psychological thriller Joshua and Spock as a child in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek.

Life and career

Kogan was born in New York City, where he lives and attends a private school for the arts. He is the son of author and photographer Deborah Copaken Kogan and Russian-born one-time child actor Paul Mikhailovich Kogan. He also has two younger siblings, Sasha and Leo. Before starring in Joshua, Kogan was a regular on the adult-oriented MTV2 sketch comedy television series, Wonder Showzen.
He wrapped production on a film called Lifelines, from writer/director Rob Margolies. The film had a general release on April 3, 2009 at the Quad Theater in Manhattan after having been shown at film festivals in 2008. Kogan also stars in the television series Delocated.

Kogan was the former lead singer/guitarist in the band Flake Plays, which released a self-titled EP in 2008.
